New update to Google search and how it affects your business’ website

From time to time, google.com updates it’s search algorithm to a more-intelligent version. These updates are has frequent has twice in a month. However, there has been only one update in this year. The last two updates in 2014 were the on the Pigeon and Penguin updates.

While the penguin updates would have a penalizing effect on sites that buy links and involve themselves in SEO bad practices, the pigeon update aims to improve the quality of search results with better local relevance.

The latest update is on Panda which “is a change to google’s search results ranking algorithm that was first released in February 2011. The change aimed to lower the rank of “low-quality sites” or “thin sites”, and return higher-quality sites near the top of the search results.”

The effect of this is that sites without SEO would continue to fall beyond the first page for search queries that match their website.

It is common and easy for website owners to ignore search engine optimizations for their website, since majority of us are more concerned about only the looks and feel of our websites, but more important is what happens behind the scene, the inner workings of the website, how discoverable it is and it responds to search queries.

A very good looking website with bad SEO is like building a mansion in a forest with no roads or pathways to it.
